Small Disc Golf Opening? - What Tree?
By sillsil2 | March 16, 2008
You step up to the tee pad and see a very narrow opening through the trees. Not a large window to make your shot. You think to yourself, "don't hit the tree, don't hit the tree". More times then not you end up hitting the tree.
So what happens?
I can't tell you exactly what happened but when you're concentrating on not thinking about something undoubtedly you think about it. You want proof, ask a person NOT to think about something. What happens? They think about whatever you told them not to think about.
Now let's apply to disc golf!
If you're thinking about NOT hitting those trees what are you thinking about? Exactly what you're not trying to do, those trees!
How do we fix this?
Step up to the tee box picturing the shot you're going to make. Think about the disc coming out of your hands and flying down that fairway (notice I didn't say, "narrow fairway"). Subtle, differences like this can really make a drastic difference in your game. You can go from saving par to shooting for a birdie!
Psychological article I know but it really does make sense.
